My name is Colby Young and I am a graduate of the Art Institute of Vancouver's (Ai) Character Animation Program, as well as a graduate from the Vancouver Institute of Media Arts (VanArts). At both schools I extensively studied many aspects of 3D graphics with a primary focus on modeling and texturing for game art and design.
In 2005, several weeks before my graduation from VanArts, I was recruited by 3D Custom Foam Inc. and upon graduation I immediately started work at the studio. 3D Custom Foam specializes in a unique technical process of creating and manipulating 3D models then converting them into Styrofoam objects. The company’s specialized service is frequently used by Vancouver’s film industry for the design and construction of props and set pieces on feature productions, television series, and commercials. I have had the opportunity to work on a number of rewarding projects, some of which can be seen in productions such as Night at the Museum, Night at the Museum 2, Space Buddies, I Love You Beth Cooper, Watchmen, Scary Movie 4, X-men 3, Final Destination 3, Ghost Rider, the Last Mimzy, Passengers, Reaper, Eureka, Supernatural, Smallville, Psyche, Reunion, Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, PainKiller Jane, Masters of Science Fiction, Bloodties, Blade the Series and commercials for such organizations as the NHL, Molson, ICBC, BC Hydro, Comcast, Wendy's and Toyota.
In 2006 3D Custom Foam won the Burnaby Business Award for Most Innovative Business. The company was profiled on networks such as the Discovery Channel, HGTV, Shaw TV, CityTV and Vancouver Television as well as numerous newspapers and magazine articles.
